A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
