President Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked National Guard Members to White House

President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.

He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Incident

US army specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.

Vigils across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.

White House Invitation

The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Reaction

Community members gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist law enforcement in DC.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, informed the media. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to assist people.”

Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.

Judicial Actions and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The event caused the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and halt providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she aimed to visit the family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” he told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
