The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure featuring continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would embrace the possibility that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, so I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to management, he revealed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly for his successor, praising him for the adjustments that took the title last term. The team has suffered four consecutive matches across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The forward died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Unbearable.”
